Trash, Art, And The Movies
The podcast that pits arthouse cinema against brainless entertainment—and then declares a victor.

Erin and Paul endorse two films about dying men living in the shadow of an ominous volcano. First: JOE VERSUS THE VOLCANO, John Patrick Shanley's quirky 1990 cult comedy starring Tom Hanks as a man who, upon learning he has five months left to live, embarks on a quest to an exotic island where he plans to sacrifice himself to a volcano; then, UNDER THE VOLCANO, John Huston's 1984 film version of Malcolm Lowry's novel starring Albert Finney as an alcoholic former British diplomat in pre-World War II Mexico who drinks his way through the Day of the Dead festivities, accompanied by his ex-wife. Can after can of orange soda, or bottle after bottle of tequila: which will prevail?
